Gender fluctuation of chosen French nouns

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the variation of grammatical gender on a sample of selected French inanimate nouns ending in -e and on the neologism covid. The first, theoretical part of the thesis defines the issue of nominal gender from a general point of view, based on work with grammars and scholarly works. The second, empirical part will focus on the analysis of selected nouns, in particular on the observation of factors influencing variation, such as frequency or word origin. The research will be carried out on the monolingual French corpora FRANTEXT, L'Est Républicain, Araneum Francogallicum Maius and Scientext as well as on selected dictionaries.
